The Cosmos Hub has announced the successful completion of its anticipated v15 upgrade, extending gratitude to the network validators who played a critical role during the transition. This milestone marks a significant advancement for the Cosmos network, known for its innovative approach to blockchain interoperability and scalability.

Next Steps for Cosmos Hub's Technological Progress

The next phase of development for the Cosmos Hub focuses on the implementation of Partial Set Security (PSS), an update to the Interchain Security protocol. Currently, a signaling proposal for PSS is live on the Cosmos Hub forum, inviting community engagement and discussion.

PSS aims to bring greater flexibility and autonomy to the network's validators. It will enable a subset of validators to operate consumer chains, thereby providing options for validators to opt-in or out depending on their assessment of profitability. Furthermore, PSS will introduce 'top-n' consumer chains, where the top 'n' percent of validators are automatically included, with options available to adjust this percentage based on security needs.

Under PSS, consumer chains will have more freedom as they can launch permissionlessly without requiring a governance proposal—unlike the current system that mandates such proposals. The initial version will still require governance clearance to prevent spam, but future updates aim to eliminate this requirement entirely. This shift is expected to encourage more chains to launch as opt-in chains, although existing ones like Neutron and Stride will transition to a 95% top-n model, mirroring their current security level.

The Cosmos community is now awaiting the deployment of these new features in an upcoming software update. The enhancement promises to not only streamline operations for validators but also pave the way for increased innovation and growth within the Cosmos ecosystem.
