Cogent SOL is a cryptocurrency or service connected to the Solana network that focuses on providing services to validators and staking mechanisms. Users can stake their SOL with a validator without risk, with the worst-case scenario being that the validator stops generating returns. In the future, the Solana network plans to implement a slashing mechanism that will penalize validators acting against the network's interests. To mitigate this risk, spreading stakes among trusted validators and staking pools is recommended.

When users wish to end staking, they typically have to go through a cooling-off period lasting one epoch (2-3 days) to regain access to their SOL. The service Marinade.Finance offers an option to deposit stake accounts and exchange them for mSOL, which can be immediately traded for SOL.

Server Security: Cogent Crypto places a high emphasis on security. Main servers are hosted in top-tier data centers with strict physical access control, backup power sources, continuous monitoring, and alerts. Operating system access is restricted to SSH keys, and passwords for login are completely prohibited.

Key Security: Validators must operate with three important accounts/key pairs: the validator's identity key that signs all transactions; the voting account to which stake accounts are delegated; and finally, the authorized withdrawer key that allows movement of SOL into and out of the validator. The first two keys are needed multiple times per second and must remain on the validator's server. These keys are backed up in a secure environment and encrypted with 256-bit AES encryption. The third key pair is stored in a hardware wallet ensuring that the private key has never been and will never be exposed to the internet.
