fetch

The Fetch.ai community has been alerted to the network's recent upgrade following the approval of Governance Proposal #25. The upgrade process entailed a temporary downtime, during which all validators synchronized, leading to the network being briefly unavailable.

Upgrading for Enhanced Features and Security

The upgrade introduced several key features, most notably the Municipal Inflation, which is set to provide an annual percentage rate (APR) of 3% for MOBX and NOMX tokens. The details of this feature have been outlined in PR #162 at the cosmos-sdk repository. Alongside this, secondary features have been added, including pruning capabilities for the cosmos-sdk application-DB through a fetchd CLI command, support for the Ledger Nano S-Plus hardware wallet, and compatibility with macOS Ventura v13.x and higher.

A Breaking Change Requiring Community Consensus

This release was categorized as a breaking change, necessitating a chain restart. To facilitate this, configuration for Municipal Inflation had to be incorporated into the genesis mint module section. The upgrade was executed through a software-upgrade governance proposal. The proposal detailed the need for a halt at block height 14699873 to begin the upgrade process.

Validator Community Achieves Swift Consensus

Validators played a crucial role in this transition. They reached consensus with two-thirds of voting power back online in an impressive 13 minutes, signaling a strong and efficient community engagement. The successful completion of the network upgrade marks a significant milestone for Fetch.ai as it continues to improve its infrastructure and services.

For developers and users looking to build on or interact with the Fetch.ai network, it is recommended to use the fetchai/fetchd:0.11.3 official public docker image and follow the build instructions provided in the official upgrade guide 6-software-upgrade-v0.11.3.md.
